K, Ket, Keta, Special K, Vitamin K, or Ketamine . It was invented in 1962 and has been
a replacement for PCP as an anesthetic in the medical world since the 1970s. It was used, among other things, as
an anesthetic during the Vietnam War. The drug with its hallucinogenic effect is
parties since the 1990s In recent years it has become increasingly popular at festivals and during raves and afters.
Drug researcher Ton Nabben of the Bonger Institute confirms that an increasing
popularity is visible in the Netherlands. While Ketamine has been popular at Amsterdam
dance parties for some time, in recent years it has also become increasingly common at parties in other parts of the
country. Does this mean there is a new trend? According to experts, drugs such as ecstasy and
cocaine remain far and away more popular with partygoers.
Who Uses Ketamine?
Research shows that Ketamine are often highly educated Dutch people who
like to go to dance parties. These are experienced drug users who are not averse to
experimenting. The average Dutch drug user is generally described
as a user who likes to experiment, but also likes to stay “on track”. This group
of users is looking for increased social interaction, but Ketamine allows you to dive more
into your own world. This seems to be the reason that drugs such as cocaine and ecstasy seem to do better in our country.
Figures from the Trimbos Institute (end of 2020):
– In 2020, 2.0% of Dutch adults had ever used Ketamine.
These figures were lower
in 2016 and 2018 – The increase in use is particularly noticeable among men, people in their twenties and people in (very)
urban areas. For example, use for 25-29 year olds was still 2.1% in 2016, in 2020
it was 5.1%. Use also increased among 20-24 year olds in the last year from 2.0 to 4.5%.
– Young adults who used Ketamine in the past year gave the following reasons:
perceiving things differently (79%), chilling and relaxing (63%), having fun with friends (61%),
experiencing adventures and crazy things (57%)
2F-Ketamine, a replacement for Ketamine
Ketamine is included in the Medicines Act, which means that it can be prescribed by
doctors and veterinarians. The production, possession or trade of Ketamine is therefore
prohibited in our country. Since 2016, an alternative has come onto the market in the form of a Research
Chemical called: 2F-Ketamine. Read more about this product in our previous blog: “2F-FDCK / 2F-
Ketamine”.
